Blackbelt Form 4. Pyongwon Poomsae (평원)

The spirit of pyongwon is the peacefulness and majesty of an open field.   There is a new ready stance introduced that involves crossed hands moving up and down as one would do for a bow.  Then one leg steps out to get into parallel stance as the hands move outward, as if they are doing a very slow double low block. These readying movements feel like an opening.

The beginning and ending of this musical piece, are modeled after the beginning and ending of the Aegukka, the Korean national anthem.  This provides a majestic feel for the beginning and ending, a contrast to the rhythmic pulse of the rest of the music.
