This form is learned for the 1st Dan.  It symbolizes “seonbae”, which is a wise or righteous man.

Koreo (Korea) is the name of an old Korean Dynasty. The people from the Koreo period defeated their Mongolian invaders.  Weaponless Korean martial arts were developed during the Koreo dynasty. Their strong spirit is reflected in Koreo.  Koreo was eventually used as the name of the country, but later it became “Korea”. The joonbee stance at the beginning and end of this form consist of a circular  frame made with the hands, that move out from the center of the chest, illustrating the gathering of ki energy.

The music composed for Koreo begins with a fast driving pulse that creates a sound of energy and motion.  The melody is made up of rising phrases with a number of harmonic suspensions that portray a feeling of courage and hope.  The transposition in the middle moves a key up, which builds excitement. The piece ends with a slow and gentle resolution for the practitioner to move back to ready stance.  1 minute, 11 seconds.
