Taekuk Pal Jang (8th form): ☷

The trigram for Pal Jang is three broken lines. It is about the earth. The spirit in this form is one of humility. The 1st geup student is learning the last of the Taekuk poomsae before going on to black belt level work. Maturity of skills and accuracy are expected with the performance of this form.

A free-flowing opening builds through the beginning movements of the form, with a synthesizer below to unify the sounds. This section may bring to mind a sunrise and/or sunset. Slow to get started, but suddenly quite stunning. Then, about a third of the way through, at the point where the double front knife hands are performed, it becomes more rhythmic and energetic, and continues this way until the end, where it goes back to open ended sounds over synthesizer. 58 seconds.
