This form is introduced tp the 6th geup taekwondo student. A few new skills are added with this form. Taekuk Sam Jang is represented by a trigram with 2 outer solid lines and an inner broken line. The trigram for Sam Jang represents Ri, or fire. The performance of the poomsae should represent the spirit of great enthusiasm
In composing this piece I thought about how fire would sound. I wanted a sharp, rhythmic and fast moving theme, to match the poomse, which is sharp, rhythmic and fast moving.
The music is sharp, with unusual rhythmic patterns (the string theme). Underneath this theme is a pulsing almost bagpipe-like drone, which sets a clear and strong pace. A number of percussion instruments are present here and there to contribute to the sharpness (xylophone, castanets and “gunshot”). 44 seconds.
