Melissa Darrow Engleman Composer

This piece went through several iterations before it was finally ready to publish and produce. It is for string quartet. There is a beautiful tree-lined segment of the Arkansas River in Wichita, Kansas, where I grew up. This piece is about one very cold and windy and dark and cloudy day when I was standing next to it, watching it because it was always different, yet always the same. The slow parts are a little dark in mood, but the theme is transformed until a very fast section where it is easy to imagine people dancing.
